I'd really really love if you posted a link to your Facebook page in the comments below, to show the cover photo that you created!
Updated for 2017. The new dimensions are 820px x 312px. The good news is that you previously made a template to 828px x 315px, then that template will still work.
Scroll to the bottom of this article for a video showing you how to use this template.

It gets even more complicated then that when you realise that you have to take mobiles into dimensions into account - here's a link to Facebook's own guidelines, which I'm sure will confuse you (come back when you're finished being confused).
FYI, Online, we always say width x height, so, for example, 100px x 200px means the width is 100px and the height is 200px.
