Responsive Web Design, or RWD, is now the recommended standard by Google. If you are getting a website, you need to think responsive.
The easiest way to explain Responsive Design is through pictures, so, while you can read our original article (called 'What is Responsive Web Design') about responsive web design, this might actually explain things better.
And I'm also going to use the opportunity to show you some of our past work.

Note the way the website scales depending on the devices it is being viewed on. There is no need for a seperate website for mobile devices. There is no need to keep any list of devices updated - this site is totally future-proof. The display only depends on the size of the screen it is being viewed upon.
