Suddenly seeing: Your store does not appear to be using a secure connection.

Did you suddenly see this error on your WordPress Dashboard?

Your store does not appear to be using a secure connection. We highly recommend serving your entire website over an HTTPS connection to help keep customer data secure.

Was your website already on HTTPS and working properly? If yes, read on

I first came upon this on an WordPress website that was already on HTTPS, had been on HTTPS since day 1, even before any themes or plugins were installed. The website was working fine, until suddenly I saw the error:

“Your store does not appear to be using a secure connection. We highly recommend serving your entire website over an HTTPS connection to help keep customer data secure.”

This is a message not from WordPress, but from Woocommerce. The fix is amazingly easy, but first I just want to point out that this fix is specifically for websites that were working fine, and then suddenly see this error, it’s not for websites that haven’t been previously set up properly on HTTPS.

The fix for the error (the first may be enough to fix):

  1. Deactivate Woocommerce
  2. Activate Woocommerce
  3. Go to Settings > Permalinks and click ‘Save Changes’ at the bottom of the page.

That should fix the error! There’s no harm to update all of your plugins as well, but you should be doing that anyway, and have probably done that before you login.

Let me know if it worked in the comments below – any other tips or questions, please feel to share!
