Responsive Web Design (RWD)
Responsive Web Design is a new way of making websites, to ensure they work in all different devices.
Marketers have been saying for years that we need to think about mobile devices. It has often been recommended that we get a separate mobile website for our website, like m.yourwebsite.com.
Due to cost, effort, management and practicalities, Zonua was never really so happy with the idea of getting totally separate website for mobile devices. Not to mention, what's a mobile device? - surely that must cover mobile phones . . . but tablets like the iPads and Android tablets are blurring the lines between desktop computer and mobile phones.
Zonua are now only making Responsive websites. If you want a fixed-width website, you'll have to go elsewhere! Responsive Web Design is the standard for mobile enabled websites that Google recommended in August 2012. Responsive Web Design, or RWD means that you no longer need one website for desktop, and another for mobile phones. If you get a website that is responsive, it means your website will be future-proof.
As RWD will be a little more expensive as it is a little more work, but the cost will be less than paying for two separate websites, plus - bonus - it keeps the search engines happy.
So, what has Zonua been doing up to now?
Previously, we made the website, and made sure it works on the different types of devices.
It seems that, at the moment, people don't mind zooming in and scanning. That's not gonna be true forever, and it already seems to be changing.
That's where responsive web design comes in. It's the same website, the same HTML, but with different styling.
To check out a responsive website, check out www.hollyshortall.com. No matter what devices you view the site on, you will see that it will scale to match the page. If you are viewing it in a PC/MAC/laptop, you can see the effect if you resize the browser.
